Scania establishes charging solutions company

Scania CV AB has announced the formation of a new company, Erinion, which will specialize in providing private and semi-public charging solutions to help customers transition to electric transport. This strategic initiative aims to install 40,000 new charging points at customer locations and strengthen the Scania Group's e-Mobility offerings within the future transport ecosystem.

Erinion, founded by Scania, will focus on providing depot and destination charging solutions to accelerate the adoption of electric trucks and support the shift towards sustainable transport systems. By empowering customers to transition seamlessly to zero-emission fleets with superior uptime, Erinion aims to contribute to Scania's goal of having 50% of its sales volume in Europe be electric by 2030.

Depot and destination charging solutions offered by Erinion complement public charging networks by providing dedicated charging infrastructure at customer locations, such as home depots. This approach offers various advantages, including predictable charging schedules, increased vehicle uptime, operational efficiency, and cost savings through stable and tailored energy costs.

Industry studies suggest that depot charging will play a significant role in both short and long-distance operations, contributing to reduced investment needs and operational savings for customers. By optimizing charging power levels and schedules, improving battery life, and leveraging off-peak electricity rates, depot and destination charging solutions can lead to substantial cost efficiencies for customers.

Through research and pilot programs with customers, Scania has identified the potential for significant cost savings with enhanced charging solutions, demonstrating the tangible benefits and advantages of investing in tailored charging infrastructure for electric transport. Read more
