New CO2 toll Germany: DKV Mobility offers help

DKV Mobility, a leading European B2B platform for on-the-road payment solutions, announces the availability of the digital tool CO2 Class Check. This user-friendly tool helps UK and Irish businesses operating in Germany and Austria to easily and accurately calculate the CO2 class of their vehicles, so that they are prepared for the introduction of the CO2 toll that takes effect on 1 December 2023 in Germany and from 1 January 2024 in Austria.

With the introduction of the new CO2 Tolls in Germany and Austria, transport and logistics organisations will face a surcharge of approximately €200 for each tonne of CO2 emitted by vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes. This regulation will expand from 1 July 2024 to include all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Non-compliance could lead to significant fines.

It's important to highlight a key change in toll calculation methodology. The new system shifts focus from the legally permissible maximum weight (F2) to the technically allowable maximum weight (F1). This change means that the tolls will now consider the entire weight of the vehicle, including its cargo, occupants, and all fuel and liquids on board. This approach aims to more accurately reflect the load that each vehicle contributes to the road network.

Customers can calculate the CO2 class of their vehicles via the CO2 Class Check on the DKV COCKPIT customer portal, or the DKV Mobility website. Via the website, they are guided to complete the necessary steps as easily as possible. For this, a customer needs their Certificate of Conformity and vehicle registration certificate to fill in the required data. The CO2 Class Check then automatically calculates the vehicle's CO2 class. If the CO2 class is 2, 3, 4 or 5, customers must upload the proof of this once. This procedure applies to both Germany and Austria.

Where can customers from different companies upload their CO2 documentation?

For vehicles registered with Toll Collect Germany, documentation can be submitted directly through the Toll Collect portal. For Austria, companies can use the ASFINAG SelfCare Portal. Additionally, DKV Mobility customers who arrange their toll bills though DKV Mobility and use the DKV BOX EUROPE can manage everything through the DKV Mobility customer portal . DKV Mobility checks all data to determine the final CO2 class of vehicles and forwards the results to the toll operator for accurate invoicing.
