The Swiss government has decided not to implement the revised road traffic law (Art. 45a SVG), which was based on an initiative from the canton of Ticino entitled ‘Safer roads – now!’ (Sicherere Strassen jetzt!).
The initiative called for mandatory driver assistance systems for heavy goods vehicles using Alpine transit routes. Following a consultation process and review, the government concluded that most trucks already meet these requirements, due to fleet modernisation. Read more
