Global logistics company DP World has announced a £1 billion expansion to London Gateway in an effort to make it Britain’s largest container port within the next five years.
The expansion will see the addition of two new shipping berths, taking the total number at London Gateway to six, each ‘able to receive the world’s largest container ships’.
In addition, a second rail terminal will be added to the terminal ‘to handle the expected increase in containerised trade’.
DP World expects this investment will lead to a ‘boost to the volume and resilience of international trade’.
It says that the expansion of London Gateway will create a further 400 permanent new jobs, in addition to the 1,200 already employed at the site.
