Sardinia gets first intermodal service to Italian mainland

The first intermodal service from Cagliari, in Sardinia, to Dinazzano (Reggio Emilia), in Emilia-Romagna, has been launched by Grendi Group for clay transport.


Genoa-based shipping company Grendi Group is in charge of loading the cargo from its hub in Cagliari on 20-feet long containers. After being shipped to Marina di Carrara in Tuscany, the cargo will be loaded on a freight train directed to the Dinazzano intermodal terminal. FHP Porto di Carrara and Mercitalia handle the rail service.

 

Marina di Carrara might not be a very well-known port, but it is the largest world port for handling stone products.
