Transport index moved up.

In December Danske Bank’s European transport index moved up. It is based on a survey of transport industry enterprises all across Europe. Respondents compare the amount of goods they have transported in the current period with the volume carried in the previous two months, and also estimate how much they might haul in another two months.

The European Freight Forwarding Index, which Denmark’s Danske Bank publishes at regular intervals, attained a value of 61 out of a potential 100 points at the end of December. In the previous month the figure had come to 56, and in December 2015 it had stood at 49 points.

The index seeks to establish how the quantity of goods transported by companies operating in the road haulage, air and sea freight segments has developed, and what the future holds for them. The way the figures are arrived at involves transporters comparing the current situation with the status of two months ago, and additionally predicting how the quantity of goods transported by their enterprise is expected to develop in the following two months. Read more
